The club was born from an idea of four woodturners, Don Colville, Don Reddy, Bob Gibson and Mike Peckham. A public meeting was held and 35 people became club members from that meeting, the club was formed then in 1993. Originally the meetings were held at "Don's Woodturning Centre", on Vanguard St and were very much like they are today.
As the club grew there was a need for bigger premises so the club shifted to a farm building up the Marsden valley where the club stayed for several years until the farm was sold. The club had one more brief stop at Lester Royds in Hope before acquiring the building that we are in today. This building was originally used as a dog dosing strip and was left derelict until we rebuilt it and moved into the completed building in May 1999.
Membership of the club has fluctuated over the years, at club meetings there are usually 15 to 30 members present. Some of the orininal members are still enjoying our club today and will tell you of the vast knowledge they have gained from belonging to a collective group of woodturners. Over the years the club has raised money from working bees, selling timber, raffles and the like to buy the machinery it has, this machinery is used for the benefit of all our members.
